Spread the Report Card Message in Your Community
Most of you are probably familiar with ASCE’s 2009 Report Card for America’s Infrastructure, released in January 2009, which assigned our nation’s infrastructure a cumulative grade of D and estimated a five-year investment need of $2.2 trillion.
Now that the grades are in, we need your help spreading the word about the state of our nation’s infrastructure and how to start addressing the problems. More than ever, the public is paying attention to the state of our infrastructure and wants to learn about what steps are needed to begin solving the problem.
ASCE developed the Report Card Outreach Toolkit to help members spread the Report Card’s messages in their communities. The toolkit provides you with all the tools you will need to give presentations on the Report Card to various groups, including professional associations and industry organizations, business and community organizations, and students.
The toolkit includes:
- Customizable PowerPoint presentations
- Additional customizable decks of subject-specific slides
- Presentation scripts
- Customizable materials to promote your presentation
- Handouts and other materials for the audience
In addition, the toolkit includes the Engineer’s Guide to Public Presentations, which discusses topics such as which groups in your community you should consider making a presentation to, how to ‘pitch’ your presentation, how to prepare for and customize your presentation and much more.
The five Report Card videos, featured on the Report Card Web site, are included in the toolkit and can be used as part of a presentation.
If you would like to request a copy of the Outreach Toolkit, email reportcard@asce.org.
Have you already been talking about the Report Card in your community? Who have you been talking to and what kind of feedback have you received? Leave your stories in the comments below!
