Created in 2000, the Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute (COPRI) is a semi-autonomous institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the country’s oldest national engineering society. COPRI serves as the multi disciplinary and international leader in improving the knowledge, teaching, development, and practice of civil engineering and other disciplines working in coasts, oceans, ports, and waterway environments. COPRI’s mission is to bring together not only engineers, but also scientists, managers, planners, lawyers and others together to help build sustainable communities.  More information about COPRI is available at:  www.coprinstitute.org.

This blog has been created by COPRI’s Solutions to Coastal Disasters Conference Organizing Committee to increase coordination among the COPRI disciplines; streamline communication; provide a forum for discussing breaking news such as Hurricane Ike or issues of concern in the field; and, increase access to coastal resources and articles.  COPRI hopes this blog will also offer an opportunity to present and share lessons learned about effective coastal solutions to natural and man-made challenges.

Louise Wallendorf, Chair of the Solutions to Coastal Disasters Conference Organizing Committee and COPRI Past-President, is the creator and editor of the Coastal Solutions Blog.  Ms. Wallendorf is currently gathering a team to oversee the editorial direction of this blog. If you are interested in participating, please contact her at lou@usna.edu or through COPRI staff at coastalsolutions@asce.org.
