About Ken Maschke, P.E., A.M.ASCE
Through his work with Thornton Tomasetti in Chicago, Ken has had the opportunity to work on many exciting projects, including the practice facility for the Chicago Bears Football Club. Ken’s latest assignment took him to Denmark to work with a Danish engineering firm, Leif Hansen. In this blog, Ken will share his experiences living and working as a young engineer in Chicago.
Ken’s first experiences with engineering involved building barns and dissecting tractor engines with his father on their family dairy farm. Ken went on to receive both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Michigan, specializing in structures. From the start of his college career, Ken saw the value of civil engineering as an opportunity to work on big projects that changed peoples’ lives. Following this desire, he became involved with ASCE, first through the concrete canoe and steel bridge competitions. Ken continues to be actively involved in ASCE and serves as the chair of the Committee on Pre-College Outreach.

Hi Ken,
First, I’ll say great hat! Even though they didn’t make it to the post season (neither did my Rockies), the Cubs are still one of my favorites to root for!
Anyway I work in affiliation with a school that offers CAD training and certification and I think they would be of interest to your readers. If you have any link opportunities please let me know!
Thanks,
Vanessa
Ken:
How about posting rules and supply list for lego activity?

Hi Ken,
I write articles for http://www.onlineengineeringdegree.org/, a website dedicated to providing students with the information and tools needed in order to pursue their Online Engineering Degree.
I ran across your site, and I thought that your readers might be interested in the latest article I’ve posted( http://www.onlineengineeringdegree.org/25-qa-sites-for-engineers ). It’s called 25 Q&A Sites for Engineers. If it’s something you find interesting and think that your readers would as well, I was wondering if you would possibly consider mentioning it on your site?
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. I would love to hear any feedback you may have, so I can share it with our team. Thank you for your time, and I hope you enjoy the article.
Best,
Samantha Rhodes
Samantha,
I’m glad you found my blog. I found your website quite interesting, and I think online degrees would make an interesting topic for my blog. I have some background with online degrees. My mom got a masters degree through distance education, before the internet had pictures. My brother got his MBA online, and I’ve taught an algebra course online. I’ve emailed you some questions about online degrees. I think we could collaborate on a very interesting blog post. Thanks!
Just look at what Khan Academy has done over a very short time.

A very good site. I taught an online Algebra course a few years ago. My non-engineer students, found the videos more informative than the textbook.
