About Ken Maschke, P.E., A.M.ASCE
Through his work with Thornton Tomasetti in Chicago, Ken has had the opportunity to work on many exciting projects, including the practice facility for the Chicago Bears Football Club. Ken’s latest assignment took him to Denmark to work with a Danish engineering firm, Leif Hansen. In this blog, Ken will share his experiences living and working as a young engineer in Chicago.
Ken’s first experiences with engineering involved building barns and dissecting tractor engines with his father on their family dairy farm. Ken went on to receive both a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Michigan, specializing in structures. From the start of his college career, Ken saw the value of civil engineering as an opportunity to work on big projects that changed peoples’ lives. Following this desire, he became involved with ASCE, first through the concrete canoe and steel bridge competitions. Ken continues to be actively involved in ASCE and serves as the chair of the Committee on Pre-College Outreach.
